Oswal, 26, who is recognized as the daughter of industrialist Pankaj Oswal, was accused of kidnapping and murder, claims she was forcibly taken by Ugandan police to answer questions regarding a missing employee just after her return from London. She recounted how the law enforcement officials arrived at their Luwero plant without a proper warrant, misleadingly claiming to have an Interpol notice. Oswal further explained that during her detention, the unanticipated turn of events led to a shocking revelation of the charges against her only after being held for over 48 hours.

The Disturbing Conditions of Detention

With a substantial family background tied to significant business investments in Uganda, Oswal was initially hopeful about her safety and rights. However, she detailed appalling conditions in the detention center, where she was left with inadequate facilities and faced potential threats to her safety from other inmates. In her account, pain and injustice were palpable as she described an experience where, despite her family’s financial efforts to secure her release_ with a bond reportedly set at USD 30,000_ she faced humiliations and was subjected to a dehumanizing experience at the hands of law enforcement. It was only after a public outcry initiated by her father’s open letter to the Ugandan President that the legal matter gained more attention, leading to her eventual release.

Future Investments and Legal Actions Planned

As for her future in Uganda, Oswal stated that while her family has enjoyed fruitful business ventures there, this unsettling incident has certainly caused them to reassess their investment plans in the region. While the plant operates at full capacity and has partnered with prominent brands, her views have shifted towards diversifying their investments elsewhere in Africa, particularly in Tanzania where they already have operations in place. Additionally, she has announced plans to pursue malicious prosecution charges against the former employee whose actions catalyzed her legal troubles. Through it all, Oswal expressed both disappointment and determination, stating, “Your karma always brings you to the place you belong.”
