Montana enjoyed warm temperatures today, reaching the 70s and low 80s, exceeding seasonal norms. Evening thunderstorms developed in the west. Overnight showers are expected to diminish by morning. A warm trend continues into the week, reaching the 80s, though normal temperatures and precipitation may return in the coming days.

MONTANA – Today brought warmer weather to Montana, with temperatures soaring into the 70s and even low 80s, which is quite a shift from the mid to upper 60s that are typical this time of year. In addition to the warmth, the eastern plains faced wind gusts hitting 30 mph during the afternoon hours. Later in the evening, thunderstorms developed in the western part of the state.

As the night progresses, showers between major cities like Bozeman, Helena, and Great Falls are forecasted to ease by morning. On Tuesday afternoon, there could be some isolated showers in south-central Montana, but generally, drier weather is expected to return soon after. While Butte and Missoula may see up to 0.3 inches of rain, lesser amounts are predicted for other areas.

The overnight lows will fall into the 40s and 50s, which, it should be noted, is a bit milder than what we have seen in the nights prior. And looking ahead to tomorrow, highs are projected to be back in the 70s, which is around 10 degrees higher than usual for early May.

As we continue through the week, it appears that temperatures might creep up into the 80s during the latter half of the week and into the weekend. This culmination of dry and sunny weather is ushering in a summery vibe to what is usually late-spring. However, as we glance further out—over the next 8 to 14 days—forecasts indicate that temperatures should return to normal levels. Slightly above-average precipitation may also be on the horizon.

In summary, Montana is experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures today, significantly exceeding normal averages. Evening thunderstorms are expected to subside overnight, giving way to a warm Tuesday. The upcoming week looks promising with temperatures rising into the 80s, but a return to average conditions and precipitation levels is anticipated in the following days.
