Significant Breakthrough in Investigation of Kasipul MP Were’s Assassination

Isaac Kuria, a key suspect in the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Were, was arrested near the Kenya-Tanzania border. This follows the detainment of several individuals, including Were’s bodyguard and driver. Authorities are investigating further suspects involved in the murder plot while analyzing communications and financial transactions.
Authorities have detained a significant suspect in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. The suspect, Isaac Kuria—also known as “Kush”—was apprehended in Isebania, a town close to the Kenya-Tanzania border, as he reportedly attempted to flee the country. His arrest comes after Were was gunned down in a brazen attack in Nairobi’s Valley Road.
Kuria’s capture represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation, according to police officials. A senior officer stated, “This man was on the run, and his arrest marks a major breakthrough in our investigation. We believe he was the triggerman.” Investigative reports suggest that Kuria meticulously followed MP Were through Nairobi’s bustling business district before orchestrating the attack during a traffic stop.
After the assassination, Kuria allegedly fled to Mihang’o, where he is said to have discarded the murder weapon—a pistol that has since been recovered by law enforcement. From Mihang’o, he reportedly traveled through Narok on a motorcycle before using public transport to reach Isebania. Investigators assert that he was maintaining contact with a relative in Tanzania, coordinating what appeared to be an escape route.
Detectives managed to track Kuria through intercepted conversations with other suspects who are already in custody. A source with knowledge of the case noted that surveillance revealed Kuria was making arrangements to exit the country. His arrest in Isebania also involved another individual, both of whom are now in custody and have been brought back to Nairobi. They are expected to appear before the JKIA Law Courts on Monday.
With Kuria’s detention, the total number of individuals held in connection with the MP Were’s assassination has now reached eleven. Those already in custody include Were’s personal bodyguard, Allan Omondi, his driver, Walter Owino, and William Imoli, who is believed to have been closely involved in the planning and financing of the murder.
Investigators are also scrutinizing several notable figures, including businessman Phillip Aroko and Lake Basin Development Authority Director Ebel Ochieng, suspected of financing the conspiracy. Others apprehended in relation to the case include Edwin Oduor and Dennis Manyasi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that they are currently analyzing not just bank transactions but also the communications among suspects to uncover the motives behind Were’s killing.
As the investigation unfolds, it has become clear that the tragic loss of Charles Ong’ondo Were has sparked a widespread inquiry into the web of connections surrounding his death. He was laid to rest on May 9 at his rural home in Kachien village, bringing a somber close to a tumultuous chapter for both his family and constituents.
The recent arrest of Isaac Kuria, a key suspect in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, marks a significant development in an ongoing investigation that has led to multiple detentions. Authorities are exploring connections to numerous other individuals believed to be complicit in the assassination plot. As the inquiry progresses, the DCI is diligently analyzing evidence to clarify the motives behind this tragic incident, ensuring justice is pursued for the slain MP.
