President Trump signed an executive order aiming to reform U.S. elections by citing India’s biometric voter ID system. He stressed that honest elections are vital and called for federal support in identifying non-citizens on voter rolls. Congress acknowledged Manmohan Singh’s role in implementing the Aadhar identification system in India as a positive influence.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order discussing the importance of voter identification in electoral systems, citing India and Brazil’s biometric databases as examples. He emphasized that ensuring free, fair, and honest elections is essential to the integrity of the American democratic process. The President asserted that the accurate counting of votes without illegal dilution is crucial for determining election winners.

Within the executive order, Trump noted, “India and Brazil, for example, are tying voter identification to a biometric database, while the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship.” Following this mention, Congress acknowledged former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for instituting the Aadhar card system in India, with Congress MP Manickam Tagore expressing appreciation for Singh’s visionary leadership.

The executive order highlighted what Trump views as a failure in the United States to enforce necessary election protections. He prompted states to collaborate with federal entities in sharing voter data and prosecuting electoral offenses, warning that non-compliance might lead to reductions in federal funding. Furthermore, it called for federal agencies to assist election officials in identifying non-citizens on voter rolls.

This executive order follows Trump’s repeated claims of electoral fraud, particularly regarding mail voting, which he has described as insecure. He has discussed the topic considerably before the declaration of election results, reflecting concerns over the electoral integrity.

President Trump’s executive order signals an attempt to reform the U.S. election system by emphasizing voter identification linked to biometric data, as seen in countries like India and Brazil. This has sparked recognition of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s contributions to electoral processes in India. The order also aims at enhancing cooperation between states and federal agencies to safeguard electoral integrity and maintain funding eligibility.
