The Government of Liberia has shut down Lofa Medic Services Clinic after a surgery performed by its administrator, Sam Wolobah, led to the death of a patient. Wolobah, who falsely claimed to be a doctor, is currently in custody. The clinic will remain closed pending investigation into the medical malpractice incident.

The Government of Liberia has taken decisive action against Lofa Medic Services Clinic, located in Jacob Town, due to a serious medical incident. The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), has shut down the private clinic following a surgery that resulted in the death of a patient, Samuel P. Kollie.

In a joint press release issued on March 25, 2025, both institutions announced the arrest of the clinic’s administrator, Sam Wolobah, for alleged medical malpractice. Mr. Wolobah, who falsely claimed to be a medical doctor, reportedly performed an appendectomy on Mr. Kollie, a 30-year-old man, leading to tragic consequences.

The clinic has been closed pending further investigations, while Mr. Wolobah is currently in custody with the Liberia National Police, where he is being questioned. Initial findings suggest that he is an Operation Room Technician and not a licensed medical doctor, violating Liberian law which prohibits impersonating a public official to deceive others.

The closure of Lofa Medic Services Clinic underscores the serious ramifications of medical malpractice and the importance of regulatory oversight in healthcare. The allegations against Sam Wolobah serve as a reminder of the potential dangers when individuals misrepresent their qualifications. The investigation by the Ministry of Justice and the LMDC is ongoing, aiming to ensure accountability and protect public health.
