Vice President Jeremiah Koung has endorsed Samuel Kogar of the MDR for the upcoming by-election in Nimba County, following the death of Senator Prince Johnson. Koung has called for inclusive participation, urging the Mah people to allow the Dan people a chance in the election to maintain balance within the community.

Vice President Jeremiah Koung has publicly expressed his endorsement for Samuel Kogar, the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) candidate, for the forthcoming by-election on April 22, 2025. This election is necessitated by the passing of the prominent Senator and MDR founder Prince Johnson in November 2024. The National Elections Commission has already announced eight preliminary candidates for this important electoral event.

In a live telephone announcement shared via local community radio stations in Nimba County, Koung, who is affiliated with the ruling Unity Party, articulated his confidence in Kogar as the ideal successor to the late Senator Johnson. He remarked, “I will support Mack Gblinwon, the candidate of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) in a different election but not this one. I believe Kogar has all it takes to replace the late Johnson.”

Additionally, Vice President Koung urged the Mah people of Nimba County to permit the Dan people to participate in the election process. He implored, “I am begging the Mah people! I think the Mah people should leave this election for the Dan people since we already have a Mah Senator. Let’s keep the balance to make the County stable.” This inclusive appeal aims to foster unity and stability within the region.

Koung’s endorsement reflects his commitment to Kogar and dispels any doubts about his support, particularly following his previous non-endorsement in last year’s by-election when he transitioned to the vice presidency, and Nyan Twanyen assumed his senatorial role.

In conclusion, Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s endorsement of Samuel Kogar marks a significant development ahead of the Nimba County by-election slated for April 2025. This support not only highlights Koung’s confidence in Kogar’s capability to succeed the late Senator Johnson but also advocates for a balanced representation between the Mah and Dan communities. Such steps are vital for maintaining harmony within Nimba County during this pivotal electoral period.
