In recent years, running has surged in popularity across Namibia, particularly in Windhoek, as individuals of various ages and fitness levels adopt a healthier lifestyle. This shift can be attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic, which necessitated a reevaluation of daily routines to incorporate physical activity due to gym closures and social restrictions. Consequently, running emerged as a feasible option requiring minimal equipment and no crowded environments.

The Windhoek Runners Club has played a pivotal role in nurturing this running movement, serving as a focal point for enthusiasts. Simultaneously, many individuals are embracing early morning runs, often commencing around 5:30 AM. Popular routes include the Daan Viljoen roadblock, with options for 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre, and challenging 21-kilometre distances.

Frans Amakali, an experienced runner and Comrades Marathon ambassador, offers valuable insights into this phenomenon.
