A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday night in South Africa, resulting in the death of Kamrul Islam, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi businessman. The event took place approximately at 9 PM in Vepener, a locality situated within the Free State Province. Kamrul was a resident of Karmullahpur village in Daganbhuiyan upazila, Feni district, and was the son of the late Abdul Mannan Miah.

Kamruzzaman, Kamrul’s elder brother, confirmed the unfortunate news and shared that his brother had spent the past 12 years in South Africa. Initially employed, Kamrul eventually started his own business and was planning to return to Bangladesh soon.

According to reports, two armed robbers, described as Black, invaded Kamrul’s shop as he was preparing to close. The assailants stole cash and valuables, subsequently forcing him outside in their search for more money. Eyewitness accounts revealed that Kamrul was shot in the left side of his chest, resulting in his immediate death.

Kamruzzaman stated that the family is coordinating with relatives in South Africa to facilitate the transfer of Kamrul’s body back home and has requested governmental assistance. Additionally, SM Azharul Islam, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Daganbhuiyan, acknowledged awareness of the situation and indicated that efforts to communicate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are underway.
