Samuel Musembi, a suspect in the murder of British national Campbell Scott, died by suicide while hospitalized. He was accused of transporting Scott’s body following the latter’s disappearance and death. Police efforts continue to investigate the murder and search for additional suspects.

Authorities in Nairobi have confirmed the death of Samuel Musembi, a suspect in the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott. Musembi died by suicide on Wednesday while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital. He was accused of driving the vehicle that transported Scott’s body from Nairobi to Makueni County, where it was discovered on February 22. Reportedly, Musembi attempted to poison himself before ultimately resorting to multiple stab wounds.

Prior to his death, Musembi evaded police capture by hiding at a relative’s residence in Dandora and later with a friend. Unknown to the friend, who later reported Musembi to authorities, he had been sought by police for days. On Tuesday, the friend discovered Musembi unconscious with signs of severe injury when he returned home, prompting an emergency transfer to the hospital where Musembi passed away.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, indicated that an autopsy would be conducted to confirm the cause of death. Musembi was one of three suspects in relation to Scott’s murder; police had previously appealed to the public for information leading to his arrest alongside two other suspects who are under interrogation. Additionally, authorities indicated that Scott was allegedly lured into a deceptive business meeting before his death, with attempts made to use his credit cards shortly thereafter.

The ongoing investigation has led to two other suspects, Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki, already detained. Meanwhile, one suspect, Benard Mbunga Mbusu, remains unaccounted for, despite being captured on CCTV footage with Scott prior to his disappearance. Mbusu has a prior criminal history dating back to 2018.

In summary, Samuel Musembi, a suspect in the murder of Campbell Scott, died by suicide while in police custody. His death follows a series of events that involved hiding from law enforcement and ultimately lead to a severe outcome during his confinement. The investigation into Scott’s murder continues as police search for remaining suspects and uncover further details regarding the case.
