According to an independent news report from “Mediafax,” Nobre was detained without a warrant on Wednesday and is currently in custody at the eighth precinct near the Maputo port.
Nobre was apprehended by plainclothes officers in the Alto Mae neighborhood while accompanied by her daughter, Alina, who recounted that the police showed her mother a document on a cellphone but did not provide grounds for the arrest. The family is particularly worried about Nobre’s health, as she suffers from high blood pressure and asthma, leaving her daughter anxious to ascertain her condition.
Despite attempts by the family’s lawyer to visit Nobre, the police have illegally denied access, impacting her right to legal representation. The Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD) has intervened by appointing three lawyers to assist Nobre, yet the police have barred all efforts to see her. The CDD plans to file a complaint with the Attorney-General’s Office in response to this violation. Law enforcement agents from the Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) informed the CDD, on condition of anonymity, that access to Nobre would not be granted for 48 hours due to her purported status as being “under investigation.”
