During an interview on Citizen TV, Gikungu indicated that the recent showers are merely a preliminary phase, with the actual long rains anticipated to begin in late March or early April.

Gikungu also noted that although current rains may diminish by mid-week, certain regions, particularly in western Kenya, could still experience light to moderate showers. Farmers in these areas are advised to delay planting until early April when the long rains are expected to provide optimal conditions for crop growth. According to forecasts, the rainfall observed since March 8 will continue through Wednesday, with some light drizzles expected into the weekend.

The weekly meteorological update has indicated that eight distinct regions, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, as well as sections of the Coastal Region, are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall. In particular, counties such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, and Nyeri are predicted to see rain starting March 12.

It is important to remain aware that, despite the rain, high temperatures persist, with many regions recording temperatures above 30°C. Additionally, strong southeasterly winds are affecting northwestern and northeastern Kenya, blowing at speeds exceeding 25 knots.
