The father of Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student missing in the Dominican Republic, is urging for a broader investigation into her disappearance on the fourth day of the search. Subbarayudu Konanki expressed his concerns regarding the possibility of kidnapping or abduction, stating, “It’s four days, and if she was in water, she would likely have been strewn to shore.”
Sudiksha was last observed near a beach close to her resort on March 6. Civil Defense officials have deployed search technologies, including drones and detection dogs, to locate her following accounts of her being swept out by waves. In light of the situation, the Konanki family has formally requested a detailed exploration of all potential scenarios beyond accidental drowning.
Notably, Sudiksha’s phone and wallet were found with her friends, a peculiarity as she typically carried her phone on her person. In a formal complaint, her father urged, “I respectfully request that the authorities take immediate steps to investigate not only the possibility of an accidental drowning but also the possibility of a kidnapping or foul play.”
Authorities are aware that it can take time for bodies to surface in warm waters. Jensen Sánchez, a Civil Defense spokesperson, confirmed that investigations are ongoing, acknowledging witness statements regarding the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Sudiksha, who holds Indian citizenship and permanent residency in the US, is currently being searched for with collaboration from various law enforcement agencies, including the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
The University of Pittsburgh has actively supported the family during this challenging time, emphasizing, “We are deeply concerned and are working with all parties involved to ensure every effort is made to locate Sudiksha and bring her home safely.” She vacationed with five other female peers beginning on March 3, seeking a refreshing break with friends in Punta Cana.
