Former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority, Gifty Oware Mensah, has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau amid an investigation into payroll fraud. She was denied bail despite attempts by her legal team, and her detention follows the earlier arrest of a colleague.

Gifty Oware Mensah, the former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority, has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB). She was taken into custody on March 7, 2025, and has since been denied bail, which is under scrutiny due to an ongoing investigation related to payroll fraud during her time in office.

Reports indicate that John Boadu had previously authorized her bail request, but she was ultimately denied and subsequently removed from the NIB premises. Her legal representatives have attempted to secure her release as well as details about her whereabouts, but these efforts have not been successful so far.

Having returned to Ghana on March 5, 2025, from a holiday abroad following the 2024 elections, Gifty Oware had at that time not received any prior communication from the NIB regarding her investigation. Her lawyer, Nana Agyei-Baffour, confirmed this information during an interview with Joy News after her return.

Her detention is particularly noteworthy as it follows the earlier arrest of her associate, Ohene Djan, who was apprehended from his residence by NIB officials in a dramatic fashion just days before Oware’s detainment. The ongoing investigation raises significant concerns regarding financial mismanagement within the National Service Authority.

The detention of Gifty Oware Mensah highlights serious allegations of payroll fraud linked to her former role at the National Service Authority. While initial attempts at securing bail have failed, the developments surrounding her arrest underline the ongoing scrutiny of public officials and their financial dealings. As investigations progress, the NIB’s actions and findings will be closely monitored.
