Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali has urged the swift finalization of the 16th protocol to enable technical cooperation aimed at revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA). During a meeting with Mr. Jin Jun, the Economic Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Tayali praised the collaborative efforts made by both Tanzanian and Zambian governments towards the enhancement of TAZARA.

Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Fredrick Mwalusaka, noted that TAZARA has been functioning under the existing 15th protocol, highlighting the critical need to advance to the 16th protocol to ensure continued progress.

In response, Counsellor Jin Jun indicated the Chinese government remains eager for developments regarding the 16th protocol. He reassured that existing agreements are subject to renegotiation and reported favorable feedback from the Tanzanian government received last year, which he considered satisfactory.

The push for the 16th protocol by Minister Tayali signifies a significant step towards enhancing the operational framework of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA). Both Zambia and Tanzania’s collaborative efforts and the willingness of the Chinese government to reconsider agreements highlight a positive trajectory for bolstering regional transport infrastructure.
