Kenya Meteorological Department Issues Rainfall Advisory for Multiple Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a rainfall advisory indicating moderate to heavy rainfall from March 7 to March 11 in several regions. Affected areas include the Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Coast. Some regions will remain hot and dry, while strong winds are also anticipated in Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning for substantial rainfall expected from Friday, March 7, to Tuesday, March 11. This advisory highlights that eight regions will likely be affected, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, as well as the Central and South Rift Valley regions.
Rainfall is also forecasted for the Coastal Region, the Southeastern Lowlands, and the Northwest, particularly affecting the southern areas of the Coast. Aside from the anticipated rainfall, many parts of the country will initially experience hot and dry conditions before rain begins, especially over the weekend, as stated by the department.
The counties expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, with rains likely starting Saturday afternoon. Additionally, from March 9 to March 12, heavy rains are expected in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Nandi counties.
Similar rainfall conditions are anticipated in Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties. In contrast, counties in the North Eastern region, such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, are expected to remain sunny over this period.
Temperatures across most of the regions could exceed 30°C, while areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley are expected to stay below that threshold. Additionally, strong southeasterly winds, surpassing 25 knots (12.9 m/s), are projected to occur in parts of Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
In conclusion, Kenyans should prepare for varying weather conditions this weekend, with heavy rainfall expected in several regions including the Highlands and coastal areas. While certain counties will encounter sunny and dry conditions, others like those in the North Eastern region will remain unaffected by rain. Administrators encourage residents to stay informed about weather developments to ensure safety during this period of anticipated rainfall and high temperatures.
