Luc Chenier, CEO of Kyiv Post, discussed the publication’s evolution into a global voice for Ukraine at the Web Summit Qatar 2025. Following the Russian invasion, Kyiv Post shifted its focus from local to international coverage, dropping the subscription model for broader accessibility. Chenier emphasized collaborative efforts with Chief Editor Bohdan Nahaylo, contributing to the publication’s success.

Luc Chenier, CEO of Kyiv Post, recently participated in the Web Summit Qatar 2025, a significant tech event held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, attracting nearly 26,000 attendees from over 120 countries. This marks the third consecutive year that Kyiv Post has been present at the Web Summit, having previously held events in Lisbon.

Upon joining Kyiv Post three years ago, just prior to the onset of the war, Chenier recognized Ukraine’s fragmented media presence on the global stage. “When I joined…Ukraine had plenty of media inside the country, but outside, it was fragmented. Ukraine wasn’t really telling its own story to the world,” he noted. This awareness prompted a strategic shift in the publication’s focus.

Chenier stated, “We figured Ukraine didn’t need Kyiv Post just for local news – it needed a global voice.” As a result, the Kyiv Post reduced its local coverage while enhancing its international outreach to audiences in the US, Europe, and Australia. This pivot included eliminating the subscription model to broaden accessibility to Ukrainian news.

Kyiv Post’s adjustment was part of a larger mission to present Ukraine’s narrative globally. Chenier remarked, “Ukraine needed a global voice, and that became our mission. Three years later, Kyiv Post is doing great.” At the Web Summit, various tech leaders and startups convened, resulting in significant business agreements between Qatari and international tech institutions.

The collaboration between Chenier and Chief Editor Bohdan Nahaylo has been instrumental in Kyiv Post’s success, with each focusing on their respective areas—editorial and business. Chenier emphasized their effective working relationship, stating, “Bohdan and I work really well together. He handles the editorial side, and I focus on the business. We don’t mix those two things.”

In conclusion, Kyiv Post has repositioned itself as a global voice for Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict, focusing on international outreach and accessibility. The strategic changes implemented by CEO Luc Chenier have enhanced the publication’s mission and impact. Collaborating with Chief Editor Bohdan Nahaylo has further solidified its operational successes. The participation in prominent events like Web Summit illustrates the publication’s commitment to expanding its presence on the world stage.
