The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in Morocco has issued a severe weather warning for the upcoming weekend. This alert indicates the potential for significant weather phenomena, which include heavy snowfall in mountainous areas, disruptive thunderstorms, and strong winds that may generate dust storms and pose safety hazards.

Snow is projected to accumulate in mountain ranges above 1,800 meters from 11 a.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday. Regions such as Ifrane, Boulemane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Taroudant are advised to prepare for these conditions, as snowfall is expected to be substantial.

In addition to snow, persistent and possibly stormy rainfall is anticipated from 6 a.m. on Friday until 4 p.m. on Saturday, with expected precipitation totaling between 30 to 50 millimeters. This amount of rainfall poses a threat of localized flooding, flash floods particularly in wadis, and may disrupt transportation networks across the affected provinces, including Safi, Essaouira, El Jadida, and Casablanca.

Strong winds, reaching speeds of 70 to 95 kilometers per hour, are forecasted to occur on Friday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., potentially leading to dust storms. Areas such as Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, and others should be especially cautious during this period and take appropriate measures to ensure safety.

In light of the predicted severe weather conditions, the DGM strongly advises residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their property. Residents should stay informed about weather updates and adjust their plans accordingly.
