Three Electricity Cable Thieves Arrested in Niger State

The police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, promptly issued a statement detailing the apprehensions. The suspects are identified as Mohammed Isah, aged 25, and Ishiaku Ali, 30, both hailing from Kwagana village near Beni, as well as Ibrahim Aliyu, a 24-year-old from the Angwan-Kanawa area of Bosso. On the night of their arrest, the duo was caught red-handed vandalizing electric cables while using a white Lexus vehicle with registration number RKD 84 AU.

Abiodun’s statement continued to shed light on the nature of the crime. “The Niger State Police Command apprehended three suspects involved in vandalizing electric cables, vital infrastructure for the government and its agencies,” he stated. Authorities managed to recover a cable cutter alongside the stolen cables, which totaled more than 100 meters in length. The suspects confessed that they had intentions to sell the cables to a buyer in Abuja.

Additionally, on June 12, 2025, police reported the arrest of Ibrahim Aliyu. Prior to his arrest, security personnel at FUT Bosso campus found him trespassing within school grounds, having damaged the generator room’s iron door protector and cut approximately 16 meters of armoured cable valued at around N2 million. He was caught while trying to sell the stolen cables at Angwan-Masa Bosso, thanks to community vigilance.

During interrogation, Aliyu admitted to acting alone in this incident, claiming he had concealed the rubber parts of the armoured cables in a sack for later transportation to his home. Abiodun stated that investigations are ongoing, and preparations are underway to charge the suspects in court for their crimes, sending a clear message about the consequences of such vandalism in the region.
