The Niger State Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the theft of a Toyota Rav4 in Minna. The suspect, allegedly hired by a syndicate, confessed to multiple vehicle thefts across northern Nigeria. Additionally, during related operations, the police recovered suspected cannabis and arrested 12 individuals linked to drug activities.

In a significant development, the Niger State Police Command has apprehended a 32-year-old male suspect for his involvement in the theft of a Toyota Rav4 in the Maje area of Minna. The news was confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, through a statement released on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded on Sunday when the vehicle’s owner, who resides in the Brighter area of Minna, parked his Toyota Rav4—registered as CE 225 RBC—along Shiroro Road around 10:30 a.m. to make copies of some documents. Upon his return, he found the vehicle missing and immediately reported the theft to the Tudun-Wada Division.

Consequently, the police promptly disseminated information regarding the theft across all divisions to ensure swift action. Around noon, officers at a stop-and-search point in Maje successfully intercepted the stolen vehicle and arrested the suspect, identified as hailing from Kofar-Dibi in Katsina State.

During the questioning, the suspect purportedly confessed to being part of a syndicate that operates out of Abuja, claiming he had been hired to steal and transport the vehicle to Dikko Junction. He allegedly admitted to previous thefts in Zaria, Kaduna, and Minna, delivering stolen vehicles to various locations across northern Nigeria.

In summary, the swift action taken by the Niger State Police Command led to the arrest of a suspect involved in vehicle theft. Moreover, the command’s operations extended beyond vehicle theft as they also conducted successful raids against drug-related activities, resulting in additional arrests and recoveries. All suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will face charges upon completion of inquiries.
