Niger Police arrested a dismissed soldier for alleged PoS fraud totaling 920,000 Naira. The suspect, Michael Musa, reportedly used his military disguise to deceive PoS operators in multiple incidents. Investigations suggest more victims may come forward as the case unfolds.

The Police Command in Niger has arrested a former soldier accused of committing fraud and impersonation in a case involving about 920,000 Naira. The arrest was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna.

The investigation began after a magistrate court referred a case of fraud and theft to the Tudun-Wada Police Division on May 27. Three victims reported that on May 12, a suspect, posing as a soldier, allegedly deceived a Point of Sale (PoS) operator into giving him 120,000 Naira before fleeing the scene.

SP Abiodun outlined that this was not an isolated incident. Just days later, on May 23, the same individual, dressed in military camouflage, tricked a PoS attendant in Kataeregi into handing over 300,000 Naira. The pattern continued on May 29, when the suspect, again impersonating a soldier, collected 500,000 Naira from another victim along Mandela Road.

With ongoing investigations, police detectives managed to apprehend the suspect, identified as Michael Musa, residing on Mandela Road in Minna, through technical intelligence. When confronted, Musa, who was found in military uniform, admitted to the charges, declaring that he had been dismissed from service in 2022 in Benin, Edo state.

The case remains active as police anticipate that more victims may come forward to file similar complaints, indicating the potential scale of his alleged fraud activities.

The Niger Police Command has acted decisively in the case of a dismissed soldier accused of defrauding multiple victims while impersonating a military official. With the arrest of Michael Musa, authorities are focusing on a deeper investigation, considering additional potential victims who may have been targeted by the suspect’s fraudulent schemes.
