BYD has launched the Sealion 07 electric SUV, named Sealion 7 in Guatemala, marking another step in its global expansion strategy. The vehicle, priced at approximately $26,360 in China, aims to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the region. BYD, already the largest NEV manufacturer in China, has seen substantial sales increases both domestically and internationally in 2024.

BYD has officially launched its Sealion 07 electric SUV, known as the Sealion 7 in Guatemala, further expanding its presence in international markets. This unveil occurred on May 22, as noted in a statement from BYD. The company initially entered Guatemala back in November 2024, releasing four different models: the Han, Tang, Song Plus DM-i, and Seal. With this new launch, BYD aims to promote electric vehicles and efficiency among consumers in the region.

The Sealion 7, a part of BYD’s latest innovations, was introduced alongside the company’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo. This platform, rolled out in China on May 10, 2024, represents a significant advancement in battery electric vehicle technology. Comparable to the Tesla Model Y, the starting price for the Sealion 07 in China is RMB 189,800, roughly $26,360. The expansion into Guatemala is part of BYD’s international strategy, having previously introduced the Sealion 07 to countries such as Norway, Thailand, India, Mexico, and Hungary.

Guatemala, positioned in Central America and bordered by Mexico, is gaining attention as an emerging market for new energy vehicles. Other than the Sealion 7, BYD’s catalog in Guatemala also includes the Dolphin, Seagull, Yuan Plus, and Song Pro DM-i models. The launch in this country could further bolster consumer interest in environmentally friendly vehicles.

BYD holds the title of China’s largest new energy vehicle manufacturer, with notable sales figures. From January to April this year, the company reported nearly 1.4 million NEV sales, marking a substantial 46.98 percent increase from the previous year. Moreover, BYD’s international sales of 285,170 units during this same period represented an impressive year-on-year growth of 105.29 percent. The company is clearly committed to expanding its influence globally and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.
