Alongside Adhikari, Nepali Ambassador Harish Chandra Ghimire and representatives from Myanmar were present during the donations, marking a moment of collaboration between the two nations.
During their brief meeting, Joint Secretary Adhikari expressed condolences to the families of those who perished in the earthquake and wished for the swift recovery of those who were injured. He acknowledged that Myanmar had extended support to Nepal during the devastating earthquake of 2015.
Adhikari emphasized Nepal’s continued commitment to supporting Myanmar, stating, “At such difficult time, Nepal government and private sector joined hands to provide relief materials to the Myanmar people. Such cooperation will help boost two-country intimacy.”
In response, official Heu Wai Lwin from Myanmar thanked Nepal for their timely assistance, noting the tragic loss of over 3,590 lives and the injury of 4,800 individuals as a result of the quake. Ambassador Ghimire informed that among the Nepalese community in Myanmar, approximately 150,000 individuals are currently residing there, with 18 lives lost and 15 still missing due to the earthquake.
The earthquake, measuring 7.7 in magnitude, struck Myanmar on March 28, prompting an organized response from the Nepali community. An umbrella organization of Nepalis is currently providing shelter to around 250 individuals affected by the disaster, while a medical team from the Nepali Army has been offering emergency services to over 1,300 survivors.
