In a tragic incident in Minna, the capital of Niger State, a 12-year-old boy named Adnan Bulana was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a vigilante attempting to disperse local miscreants. The events unfolded in the Soje ‘A’ area, where vigilantes were reportedly trying to arrest suspected criminals, which led to resistance from the suspects who began throwing stones, prompting gunfire and the use of teargas.
Witnesses explained that Bulana was running an errand for his mother when he became an unintended victim of the violent confrontation. Simultaneously, another violent clash occurred at Anguwan-Roka, Maitumbi, where rival hoodlum groups engaged in a fight, resulting in one person, Safaryu Musa, being stabbed.
Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, verified both incidents. He detailed that on April 1, 2025, at approximately 12:20 PM, an unidentified vigilante group entered the Soje ‘A’ community to apprehend miscreants. During the attempt, the suspects retaliated, leading to the discharge of firearms that tragically resulted in Bulana’s death.
Following the shooting, local youths retaliated by attacking the vigilante office in Kpakungu. Police teams were dispatched to restore order, and Bulana was taken to a general hospital where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the incident.
On March 31, 2025, another altercation occurred in Angwan-Roka, Maitumbi, during which rival youths fought, leading to the stabbing of Safaryu Musa, who is currently receiving treatment at a nearby clinic. The police remain committed to addressing these violent episodes in the community.
The incidents in Minna highlight the dangers associated with vigilante actions and conflicts among local groups. The death of young Adnan Bulana due to a stray bullet underscores the urgent need for effective law enforcement measures to manage public safety. Ongoing investigations aim to ensure justice and prevent further violence in the community, while local police reaffirm their commitment to restoring order.
