A painter, Ahmed Mohammed Lawal, has been granted bail of GH¢1 million by an Accra Circuit Court following allegations of stealing electrical cables valued at GH¢1,035,500 from the Bank of Ghana’s construction site at Ridge. The court required two sureties for the bail approval. Judge Mr. Isaac Addo has also instructed the Prosecution to adhere to disclosure regulations as the case proceeds, which has been adjourned to May 7, 2025.
Lawal faces charges of unlawful entry and theft, charges he vehemently denies. The Prosecution, represented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agustin Kingsley Oppong, stated that the complainants—Samuel Nii Tettey and Davidson Mensah Otinkorang, both associated with the Bank—discovered a break-in at the Energy Farm on February 16, 2025, resulting in substantial theft of copper cables.
The investigation revealed evidence captured by Close-Circuit Television (CCTV), which showed Lawal and two accomplices stealing the cables. Following their surveillance, the complainants apprehended Lawal and turned him over to the Police. Lawal and his accomplices reportedly accessed the site via a scaffold, using a sharp object to cut and remove the cables. Investigations further indicated that Lawal received GH¢2,000 from selling the stolen cables at Kwame Nkrumah Circles, but was unable to identify his accomplices or the buyer.
In summary, Ahmed Mohammed Lawal has been granted substantial bail following his charge for stealing electrical cables from a Bank of Ghana construction site. The court continues to monitor the case, with adjourned proceedings slated for May 2025. The ongoing investigation highlights significant evidence and the alleged methods used in the theft, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations against Lawal.
