The victims endured harsh conditions, including 24-hour armed surveillance, extortion, and brutal treatment. DIRCO reported that a ransom of approximately R 50,000 was demanded for their release. They worked excessive hours under threat of violence and were provided with inedible food and unsafe drinking water.
