The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan has officially announced the sighting of the Shawwal moon, confirming that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated nationwide on Monday, March 31. This decision was communicated by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad on Sunday, who indicated that credible testimonials regarding the moon sighting were received from various cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Gujranwala.
During the meeting in Islamabad, which was presided over by Maulana Azad, religious scholars, meteorologists, and experts from the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) were present. Maulana Azad stated, “After verifying the testimonies, it was unanimously decided that Eid ul-Fitr will be observed on March 31.” Previously, experts had indicated that the Shawwal moon was born on Saturday at 3:59 PM, becoming sufficiently visible by Sunday’s sunset, as it would be over 25 hours old.
This declaration heralds the commencement of Eid celebrations across the country, signifying the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of spiritual reflection and fasting.
