Family of Kidnapped Retired Director Appeals for Police Intervention

Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director abducted in Delta State, has been missing for two months. His family has sought help from Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun after paying a ransom of N4,020,000 without success. A solicitor for the family urges police action and calls for governmental investigation to ensure the victim’s safe return.
The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director who was kidnapped in Delta State, is appealing to the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, for his immediate assistance in securing his safe return. Frank Tietie, the Principal Partner of Forthright Chambers and the family’s solicitor, made this plea during a news conference in Abuja. His law firm has submitted a petition to the I-G regarding the case.
Emmanuel Ofobrukueta was abducted by armed assailants on January 13, just outside his home in Mosogar, Delta, on the day he intended to travel to Asaba for pension-related matters. Tietie reported that the victim has been held captive for two months, despite the efforts of the Delta State Police Command to locate him. The victim’s family has endured significant distress during this time.
In their efforts to rescue Ofobrukueta, the family engaged a private tracking company two days following the kidnapping. They reportedly paid a ransom of N4,020,000 to individuals who volunteered to deliver the amount to the abductors. Tietie expressed concern that, despite this action, Ofobrukueta remains unaccounted for and no communication has been established with the kidnappers.
Amid the family’s growing despair, Tietie raised suspicions regarding potential collusion between the victim’s close associates and the kidnappers. However, he reaffirmed the family’s confidence in the Nigeria Police Force’s capability to resolve this case. Tietie urged the I-G to take a personal interest in Ofobrukueta’s situation, emphasizing the police’s resources and personnel should be employed to locate and rescue him.
Furthermore, he called upon the Delta State Government to conduct a thorough investigation to facilitate the safe return of the victim, insisting that the family deserves support during this ordeal. Tietie concluded by appealing to the Nigerian Police and relevant authorities to prioritize the rescue of all individuals currently held by kidnappers.
In summary, the family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta has urgently called for intervention from the Inspector-General of Police to aid in the safe rescue of the retired director, who has been in captivity for two months. Despite efforts including payment of ransom and the engagement of private assistance, there has been no communication from the kidnappers. The family remains hopeful of police intervention while expressing suspicions about possible insider involvement in the crime.
