On March 19, 2025, armed personnel from the National Security Secretariat raided former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison’s home in Accra, seeking cash rumored to be in vaults. Dr. Addison denied the presence of any vaults, and after searching without results, the team took the CCTV equipment. The incident reflects growing concerns over security operations targeting former government officials.

On March 19, 2025, a group of approximately 20 armed men, led by Richard Jakpa from the National Security Secretariat, conducted a raid at the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison. The incident took place at Dr. Addison’s home in Roman Ridge, Accra, while he was present. The assailants were heavily armed, some wearing balaclavas and carrying AK-47 rifles, and they commenced the search by disabling the property’s CCTV system.

The National Security team demanded that Dr. Addison disclose the location of any “vaults” within his home. Dr. Addison denied having any such storage of cash or valuables. Regardless, the armed personnel proceeded to allegedly ransack the residence. Eyewitness accounts and reports by Asaase News confirm that no vaults or significant cash reserves were discovered during the search.

After failing to find any items of interest, the security officials seized the CCTV monitor and control unit. Following the raid, Dr. Addison and his family were reported to be traumatized, as communicated by a close associate. A retired senior official from the central bank remarked on the unprecedented nature of such an incident involving a former Governor, describing it as both “scary and messy.”

This raid marks the second incident led by Mr. Jakpa targeting former appointees of the previous Akufo-Addo administration since President John Mahama’s inauguration on January 7, 2025. Notably, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence was also subjected to a raid by armed men earlier on February 10, 2025, which was documented on CCTV and later shared publicly.

To summarize, the raid on Dr. Ernest Addison’s home by heavily armed National Security personnel raises significant concerns regarding the conduct of security operations in Ghana. The incident showcases a troubling trend of targeting high-profile individuals associated with the former administration and has left both the Addison family and observers alarmed.
