Jorge Martin hopes to return for the Qatar MotoGP after injuries sidelined him. He missed the first two rounds and will not compete in Austin. His injuries include broken bones in his wrist and foot. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira will miss the Austin race due to injury, with Augusto Fernandez standing in for him.

Defending MotoGP champion Jorge Martin has expressed optimism regarding his return to the competition following a series of pre-season injuries. He has missed the initial two rounds of the championship and will not participate in the upcoming race in Austin, Texas, scheduled for March 29-30. Martin is targeting a comeback for the fourth round at Lusail, Qatar, on April 12-13, contingent upon ensuring it poses no risk to his health.

In remarks to the Italian sports publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Martin stated, “I expect to be in Qatar, but only if it doesn’t pose any risks.” He emphasized the importance of adhering to recovery timelines, cautioning against rushing back, as it could exacerbate his situation. Martin’s pre-season preparations were significantly hampered after he sustained injuries, including a broken right hand and foot during a crash on the first day of a test session in Malaysia.

After suffering a second crash while training on a supermoto all-terrain bike, Martin detailed his injuries: broken radius and scaphoid bones in his left wrist, four fractures in his left foot, and muscular injuries to his right ribs. Currently, Martin finds himself trailing six-time world champion Marc Marquez by 74 points, as Marquez has achieved victories in both races and sprints during his inaugural season with a factory Ducati.

Despite the setbacks, Martin remains positive. He commented, “It was a difficult time but now I start to see the light” on social media, indicating his recovery is progressing well. In related news, the Yamaha-Pramac team announced that Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira will also miss the race in Austin due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Sprint Race in Argentina. Spaniard Augusto Fernandez will take his place in the lineup.

In summary, Jorge Martin is hopeful about returning to MotoGP for the Qatar round despite recent injuries sustained from crashes. While he faces a significant points deficit behind Marc Marquez, he is focused on recovery and cautious about returning too soon. Additionally, Miguel Oliveira’s absence from Austin highlights the ongoing challenges faced by riders this season. The dynamics of the championship continue to evolve as injury impacts key competitors.
