Sabo Mohammed, a 70-year-old man, was remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing Inspector Nasir Musa, a police prosecutor, to death in Niger State. The assault was motivated by suspicions of misconduct involving Mr. Mohammed’s junior wife. The case has been adjourned as the court awaits legal advice on proceedings.

A 70-year-old man, Sabo Mohammed, from Manigi village, has been remanded at Minna Correctional Center following accusations of fatally stabbing a police prosecutor, Inspector Nasir Musa, affiliated with the Manigi Magistrate Court. The incident occurred on September 3, 2023, when Mr. Mohammed allegedly attacked Inspector Musa with a knife, suspecting him of having inappropriate relations with his junior wife.

The injured Inspector remained hospitalized at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Bida but succumbed to his injuries. The actions of Sabo Mohammed are in violation of Section 221 of the Penal Code Law, which details punishment by death for such offenses.

In court, Police Prosecutor Inspector Ogiri Emmanuel indicated that further case details would be provided to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice. During the preliminary proceeding, Mr. Mohammed admitted guilt and expressed remorse for his actions.

Presiding Magistrate Hajiya Hadiza Hamza Imam acknowledged the severity of the crime but noted that the court does not have jurisdiction over culpable homicide cases, leading to the postponement of proceedings until further guidance is received from the Ministry of Justice. A subsequent court session is scheduled for October 15, 2023, during which the situation will be reassessed.

This incident underscores serious legal implications surrounding violent acts and the responsibilities of community members to resolve conflicts peacefully. Sabo Mohammed’s case will advance through legal proceedings, with the court confirming it lacks the jurisdiction to handle such serious charges directly.
