The U.S. voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election has more than doubled compared to 2020, with 53,213 votes cast in the first week, a 122% increase. This election, featuring 152 delegates from the U.S., will significantly influence Israel’s future and support for Jewish communities globally, with a total of over $1 billion allocated annually. Herbert Block expressed optimism about the unprecedented voter participation.

Voting in the United States for the upcoming 2025 World Zionist Congress election has experienced a significant surge, more than doubling in its first week when compared to the 2020 election. According to a recent press release, this election, held every five years, offers an essential platform for American Jews to influence the future of Israel and support Zionism on a global scale.

During the initial voting period from March 3 to March 10, a total of 53,213 votes were cast, marking an impressive 122% increase from the 23,938 votes recorded in the same timeframe of the last election in 2020. With this momentum, it is anticipated that the election will exceed the previous total of 123,575 votes. For context, the first week of the 2015 election saw only 7,639 votes.

The election will select 152 delegates from the United States, constituting approximately one-third of the Congress. These elected officials will join representatives from around the globe to shape the leadership and direction of various key organizations, including the World Zionist Organization (WZO), the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), and the Jewish Agency for Israel. The decisions made will impact the allocation of over $1 billion annually for Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.

Herbert Block, the executive director of the American Zionist Movement (AZM), expressed optimism regarding voter engagement, stating, “We are gratified to see the unprecedented voter participation in the election’s first week and anticipate that this pattern will continue throughout the voting period.” He emphasized that this turnout reflects a strong commitment among American Jews to Zionism amidst growing stakes for the Jewish and Israeli future.

This election features a record 22 competing groups representing a broad spectrum of political viewpoints, religious affiliations, and cultural traditions, marking a 57% increase from the 14 groups that participated in 2020. Moreover, over 2,900 candidates from 43 states and territories in the U.S. are vying for election, an increase of more than 60% compared to the previous election.

Following the election, the 39th World Zionist Congress is scheduled to convene in Jerusalem from October 28 to October 30, 2025.
