Lisa Field, campaigning for Carol Doherty’s former state representative seat, is a Democrat with experience in advocacy through her role at the Massachusetts Nurses Association. She emphasizes her personal connection to local struggles and aims to represent families in Taunton and Easton. Other candidates include Republican Chris Coute, with primary elections on May 13 and general elections on June 10.

Lisa Field, a Democrat from Taunton, is running for the state representative seat previously held by the late Carol Doherty. Currently serving as the associate director of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Field expressed her commitment to continuing Doherty’s legacy as a public servant in her announcement.

Doherty, who represented the 3rd Bristol District and passed away on February 15 due to pancreatic cancer, previously served parts of Taunton and Easton. The district includes various precincts in both towns. Following her death, a special election was scheduled, with field announcing her candidacy on March 10.

Field previously co-founded Clean Air Taunton, a group that opposed the establishment of a sludge biosolids processing plant in Taunton. In her campaign, she emphasizes her understanding of local struggles, stating, “I know what families in Taunton and Easton are going through because I’ve lived it: family and friends struggling with substance-use, and the crushing weight of rising costs of living.” Field is determined to advocate for everyday families, contrasting her motives with those of other politicians who seek personal gain.

Other candidates for the seat include Chris Coute, a Republican Taunton City Councilor, who has also expressed intention to run. The deadline for candidates to file paperwork is April 1. The Democratic and Republican primary elections are set for May 13, with the general election scheduled for June 10.

Carol Doherty, who recently passed at the age of 82, had a significant political career. After winning a special election to the state representative position in 2020, she served three terms, previously contributing five terms in the Taunton School Committee.

This election presents an opportunity for a new candidate to focus on the needs of the community, continuing the work of a dedicated public servant, and addressing the pressing issues faced by local families.

Lisa Field’s candidacy for the state representative seat is motivated by her commitment to serve families in Taunton and Easton, building upon the legacy left by the late Carol Doherty. With an understanding of local challenges, she aims to advocate for everyday citizens. The upcoming elections offer a chance for constituents to choose representation that prioritizes community needs.
