Ahmed Suale Murder Suspect Remanded by Ghanaian Court

Daniel Owusu Koranteng has been charged with the murder of journalist Ahmed Suale and remanded by the Madina District Court. He is scheduled to appear again on April 1, 2025. The case involves prior media incidents that escalated tensions against Suale, leading to his assassination in 2019. Koranteng fled the country post-murder and was later apprehended in March 2025.
Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Nana or Amakye, has been remanded by the Madina District Court in connection with the murder of journalist Ahmed Suale. The 35-year-old businessman faces charges of murder, alleged to have caused Suale’s death through unlawful harm on January 16, 2019. Despite having legal representation, Koranteng’s plea has been preserved, and he is scheduled to reappear in court on April 1, 2025.
The prosecution states that the petitioner, a relative of Suale, linked Koranteng to the crime scene. Both Koranteng and Suale were employees of Tiger Eye company, which is led by renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Tensions surged in June 2018 when Mr. Kennedy Agyapong of Net2TV aired images of Suale, inciting public retribution against him.
After the broadcast, Suale reportedly identified Koranteng as the individual who had shared his photographs with Agyapong. On the day of the murder, call records positioned Koranteng near Suale’s residence, indicating his presence at the critical time. Later that evening, Koranteng was noted to have returned to Amasaman shortly after the incident.
The prosecution has revealed that Koranteng fled to the United Kingdom following several police invitations for questioning. After his return to Ghana, he was apprehended in Amasaman on March 15, 2025. While Koranteng acknowledges his acquaintance with Suale and his visit to Agyapong, he denies any involvement in selling Suale’s photographs. The police investigation continues to uncover additional suspects related to the case.
In summary, Daniel Owusu Koranteng has been charged with the murder of Ahmed Suale, a journalist who was killed in January 2019. Despite having the opportunity for legal representation, Koranteng’s plea remains unentered as he is remanded until his next court appearance. The case involves critical testimonies related to prior tensions and alleged surveillance by the accused, with ongoing police investigations into further suspects.
