Commandant-General Ahmed Audi’s support was pivotal in this operation.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have apprehended a 17-member gang allegedly responsible for the murder of one of their officers on January 12, 2025. The arrest was executed by the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad in collaboration with related agencies. According to NSCDC spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, the suspects were already on the watchlist of the corps and the Tantita Security Service.

The gang had previously attacked a shared base of the NSCDC and Tantita Security Service, resulting in the death of an Assistant Superintendent and the theft of a speedboat and firearms. The spokesman indicated that this syndicate is also implicated in the violent assaults on oil and gas installations within the Niger Delta region.

Further investigations have unveiled the gang’s role in the attack on the residence of the Petroleum Minister, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, on January 1. Babawale confirmed ongoing investigations, noting that the suspects would soon face arraignment. Additionally, they recovered an AK47 rifle, empty magazines, and military gear from the suspects.

Babawale praised NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi for the logistical support provided, allowing the squad to effectively address illegal bunkering and other criminal activities.

The successful arrest of the 17-member gang by the NSCDC signifies a notable effort in enhancing security and tackling criminal activities in the Niger Delta region. This operation has not only ensured justice for the slain officer but also emphasizes ongoing efforts in safeguarding oil and gas installations. The collaboration between the corps and sister agencies reflects a unified approach in combating regional crime.
