Elvis Lenzy, born Elvis Inyarubuga on July 2, 2003, in Ngoma District, has recently gained attention in Rwanda’s music scene with his debut single “Tina.” Raised by his aunt after the loss of his parents, Lenzy attended New Life Christian Academy and later Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, a school known for fostering musical talent. Here, he recorded his first songs and formed crucial collaborations that would shape his career.
Lenzy’s musical style defies genre limitations, primarily influenced by Afrobeat, but incorporating diverse elements. He emphasizes his artistic freedom, stating, “I just want to make music that feels good—to me and to the people listening.” His debut song, “Tina,” produced by Flambeau, showcases a blend of Afro-fusion rhythms and has established him as a promising artist in Rwanda’s music industry.
Following his successful launch, Lenzy released “Akanyambo” on March 14, dedicated to a girl of rare beauty, inspired by Rwandan Inyambo cattle, symbols of elegance. This heartfelt track features emotive lyrics in Kinyarwanda and English, further asserting his cultural roots. Both “Tina” and “Akanyambo” were produced by Flambeau, with the latter’s music video directed by John Elarts.
Describing his creative process, Lenzy shares, “Sometimes I write everything beforehand; other times, I start with melodies and build from there.” He maintains a humble perspective, refraining from setting high expectations for his career, as he believes in letting his work speak for itself. As he looks to the future, he anticipates releasing more music and exploring collaborations that align with his vision, expressing, “If we share the same vision, I’m ready to create.”
