In 2024, a significant 54.91% of all stolen vehicles in Kenya were Toyotas, as revealed by a report from the Association of Kenyan Insurers. The overall vehicle theft incidents decreased to 327, down 28% from 2023. Other brands affected included Isuzu, Mazda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.

A report released by the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI) outlines that Toyota vehicles are at a high risk of theft in Kenya. The data, compiled for the year 2024, indicates that 54.91% of all stolen vehicles were Toyotas, highlighting their prominence among stolen makes.

Furthermore, the report identifies other frequently targeted vehicle brands, including Isuzu (12.88%), Mazda (7.06%), Nissan (5.83%), and Mitsubishi (3.99%). The report also noted a reduction in vehicle theft, with 327 motor vehicles stolen in 2024, representing a 28% decrease from the 419 incidents recorded in the previous year, 2023.

The findings suggest that Toyota remains the most targeted vehicle brand in Kenya, with more than half of the thefts attributed to this make. The decline in overall vehicle theft numbers is a positive trend, though the data reveals ongoing concerns regarding specific vehicle brands that continue to be targeted by criminals.
