Marc Marquez has successfully maintained his flawless beginning to the 2025 MotoGP season with a victory at the Grand Prix of Argentina. This signature performance allowed the six-time world champion to fend off competition from his younger brother, Alex Marquez. Consequently, Marc has extended his lead in the world championship standings to 16 points at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.
Starting from pole position, Marc faced an early challenge as he mistakenly overshot the first corner on lap four. However, he swiftly regained the lead by overtaking Alex at turn five with five laps remaining, ultimately achieving a 1.362-second victory and marking his fourth career win in Argentina.
In the opening two rounds of the 22-round season, Marc has achieved victory in both sprint races and Grands Prix, amassing a perfect total of 74 points. Alex Marquez consistently performed well, finishing second in both races alongside fellow Ducati rider Franco Morbidelli, who secured his first podium finish in over 1,400 days.
Following his triumph, Marc Marquez expressed his satisfaction by stating, “The race was amazing, today I push.” He highlighted his accomplishment of matching Angel Nieto’s record for third place in total victories across all Grand Prix classes. As the race progressed, he noted a shift in confidence, leading him to challenge Alex successfully in the closing laps.
As the Marquez siblings dominated the race, Alex initially appeared poised to collect his first Grand Prix victory. His lead was trimmed by Marc as the latter executed a strategic maneuver while extending his record of wins in Argentina in previous years. Ducati had an impressive performance overall, securing all top five spots and contributing to their winning streak of 19 consecutive Grands Prix.
In contrast, Australian rider Jack Miller faced a disappointing race. After a poor launch from the fifth row, he fell to 16th place but managed to regain ground, ultimately finishing in 14th place, 23.486 seconds behind Marc. The upcoming third round of the season will occur in Austin, Texas, from March 28-30.
Marc Marquez’s outstanding performance at the Grand Prix of Argentina underscores his dominance in the 2025 MotoGP season, establishing a solid lead in the championship.
