Fatal Assault in Kwekwe: Man Dies While Protecting Bar Patrons

Shepherd Mavhangira, a 45-year-old man from Zhombe, was killed while attempting to protect patrons from three men throwing bricks at them. Police confirmed a manhunt for the suspects, who have yet to be apprehended. Authorities are seeking public assistance in locating the attackers and bringing them to justice.

In a tragic incident in Kwekwe, Midlands province, a 45-year-old man, Shepherd Mavhangira, lost his life while attempting to intervene as a peacekeeper. He was assaulted with bricks after trying to prevent three men from pelting patrons at a local beer drinking establishment. This assault led to his immediate death due to the fatal injuries sustained.

Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed the event and described the ongoing manhunt for the assailants. The police are currently searching for Kenias Mapfumo, Armstrong Marumahoko, and Mathias Tatenda Dhlamini in connection with this murder that occurred on March 13, 2025, at Mushange Business Centre in Zhombe.

Nyathi reported, “The suspects allegedly hit the victim with bricks on the forehead, thigh, and left bicep and he died on the spot.” The ZRP is now appealing to the community for any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects, urging them to come forward and report to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.

The fatal assault on Shepherd Mavhangira highlights the dangers faced by individuals trying to mediate conflicts. The Zimbabwe Republic Police is actively pursuing the suspects involved in this tragic incident and encourages public cooperation in ensuring justice is served.
