The Tarkwa District Court has imposed a three-month sentence of hard labor on Enoch Buamah, a 19-year-old illegal miner, for the theft of assorted items valued at GH¢7,563. Previously convicted for a similar crime, Buamah pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, property damage, and theft; however, the sentences for these charges will run concurrently.
Prosecutor Inspector Patrick Essien informed the court, presided by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, that the complainant, Patricia Kyei, a local hairdresser, resided in the Nyametease community. On December 11, 2024, she securely locked her house to attend an event in a neighboring town, Akotom, along the Tarkwa-Bogoso highway.
Upon her return on March 12, 2024, Kyei discovered her house had been burgled, with significant damage including a broken lock valued at GH¢1,000. Stolen items included a television, cooking utensils, and clothing, among others. After informing the local committee task force, an investigation led to Buamah’s confession and the recovery of the stolen property from his residence, ultimately resulting in his arrest by the police at Aboso.
The conviction of Enoch Buamah highlights the legal ramifications of theft and unlawful entry, particularly in the community of Nyametease. His case underscores the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to address illegal activities. These measures not only promote safety but also serve as a deterrent against future offenses.
