A love letter found in an abandoned drug cartel extermination camp in Mexico has drawn parallels to Auschwitz. The camp was discovered by families searching for missing loved ones, revealing horrific evidence of crimes. Over 110,000 individuals are reported missing in Mexico. Federal investigations have been initiated, with potential links to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

A heartbreaking love letter was discovered in a drug cartel ‘extermination camp’ in Mexico, evoking comparisons to Auschwitz. This camp, found south of Guadalajara, emerged during a desperate search by families of the missing, as over 110,000 individuals have been reported missing in Mexico recently. Reports indicate that relatives formed a group called Warrior Searchers of Jalisco to further their search efforts.

On March 5, the searchers unearthed an abandoned ranch in La Estanzuela, revealing three underground ovens and numerous bone fragments. The sight of these remains clearly indicated that the location functioned as an extermination camp, with some photographs of found items, such as hundreds of pairs of shoes, drawing chilling parallels to those displayed at the Auschwitz museum in Poland.

Former chief justice of Mexico’s Supreme Court, José Ramón Cossío, remarked, “Of course, it immediately evokes the conditions at Auschwitz.” The discovery shocked Raúl Servín García, a member of the Warrior Searchers, who expressed concern for relatives of victims, fearing they may have suffered in such horrifying conditions.

Among the most poignant findings was a letter dated 2003, written by Eduardo Lerma. He poignantly stated, “My love, if someday I don’t return I only ask you to remember how much I love you.” Following these discoveries, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that federal authorities would investigate the site, stating the need for a coordinated effort to understand the events that transpired there.

Frustrations have mounted regarding prior inaction despite a September 2024 raid by the Mexican National Guard, which led to the detention of ten individuals but yielded no follow-up measures until the re-exploration led by the Warrior Searchers. As investigations continue, reports suggest that the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) may be responsible for these heinous acts.

The uncovering of the drug cartel ‘extermination camp’ in Mexico highlights the ongoing crisis of disappearances linked to organized crime. Families, fueled by hope and determination, have shed light on grim realities, echoing historical atrocities. With federal authorities now involved, the hope remains that justice will be pursued against the perpetrators, potentially linked to one of Mexico’s most dangerous cartels.
