A 36-year-old British woman, residing in London, reported being raped by an Instagram acquaintance while staying at a hotel in Delhi. She had arrived in India on March 7, spending four days in Goa before traveling to Delhi on March 11 to meet the man she knew as “Veer.” Upon meeting, the man, identified as Kailash Gautam, picked her up from the airport and they checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur.
In the hotel, Gautam allegedly consumed a considerable amount of alcohol and misbehaved with the woman, who attempted to resist his advances. Following her consumption of wine to ease her anxiety, Gautam sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. When she tried to leave, hotel staff misunderstood the situation, believing she was intoxicated, and allowed Gautam to escort her back to their room.
During her ordeal, a hotel housekeeping staff member, Mohammed Gulfam, allegedly molested her in the elevator. After the incidents, the woman sought medical attention the following morning due to severe pain, leading to the police being informed. The police swiftly arrested both Gautam and Gulfam under the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita, with Gautam being captured after changing locations multiple times.
Authorities reported that the woman received counseling following the incident, and both men were presented before a Delhi court, where they were remanded to judicial custody. The British high commission was notified of the incident, although there was no information regarding the woman’s current whereabouts in Delhi.
