Kamrul Islam, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi, was shot dead in Wepener, South Africa, by two robbers as he was closing his shop. A tragic incident occurred in Wepener, South Africa, where 33-year-old Kamrul Islam, a Bangladeshi national, was shot dead by two assailants. Kamrul, originally from Karmullahpur village in Feni, had relocated to South Africa 12 years prior to establish his own business after initial employment.

On the evening of the incident, Kamrul was closing his shop around 9:00 PM when two youths confronted him with a firearm, demanding cash and valuables. His younger brother, Kamruzzaman, reported that during the robbery, the assailants suspected additional cash in Kamrul’s vehicle and forcibly took him outside.

In the ensuing altercation, one suspect shot Kamrul in the chest, resulting in his immediate death. Kamrul had recently built a house in his village and intended to return to Bangladesh shortly to wed. The family is distressed, particularly as their mother is in poor health since learning of Kamrul’s death.

The family has sought assistance from the Bangladeshi embassy to repatriate Kamrul’s body. Additionally, the local upazila administration, represented by SM Azharul Islam, has expressed readiness to support the family in this process, should they require help.
