Cyclone Jude Causes Significant Damage in Northern Mozambique

Cyclone Jude has devastated northern Mozambique, leading to at least six fatalities and damaging over 900 homes. This is the third cyclone to strike in recent months, following Cyclone Chido, which caused significant casualties and property destruction. Although Jude has weakened, it continues to pose risks with heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The recent Cyclone Jude has caused significant devastation in northern Mozambique, claiming at least six lives and destroying over 900 homes, according to local authorities. The National Institute of Meteorology reported that the cyclone, which hit the country on Monday, produced winds reaching 195 kilometers per hour and rainfall exceeding 250 millimeters (10 inches) within a 24-hour period.
This storm marks the third cyclone to impact the impoverished nation in a span of four months. The National Institute for Risk and Disaster Management indicated that, besides the fatalities, around 20 individuals have sustained injuries, and approximately 9,500 people have been affected by the storm’s aftermath.
Although Cyclone Jude has since weakened to a tropical storm, it continues to pose threats with persistent heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms. Prior to Jude, Cyclone Chido struck Mozambique in December, resulting in at least 120 fatalities and the destruction of nearly 120,000 homes. Additionally, Cyclone Dikeledi, which occurred in mid-January, led to five deaths and damage to almost 3,500 homes.
The recent Cyclone Jude has profoundly affected northern Mozambique, exacerbating the challenges faced by the impoverished nation with its third severe cyclone in four months. With a rising death toll and thousands affected, there is an urgent need for humanitarian assistance and disaster management efforts to support recovery and rebuild homes in the impacted areas.
