Cyclone Jude has resulted in at least six deaths and damaged over 900 homes in northern Mozambique. The storm produced winds of 195 km/h and heavy rainfall, leading to the impact of over 9,500 people. This is the third cyclone to hit Mozambique in four months, following significant destruction from Cyclone Chido and Cyclone Dikeledi.

Cyclone Jude has wreaked havoc in northern Mozambique, leading to the tragic loss of at least six lives and the destruction of over 900 homes. The cyclone struck on Monday and was noted for its powerful winds reaching up to 195 km/h (120 mph) alongside heavy rainfall that exceeded 250 mm (10 inches) within a mere 24-hour period, according to the National Institute of Meteorology.

Although Cyclone Jude has since diminished to a tropical storm, it continues to unleash intense rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across the region, severely impacting the local population. The National Institute for Risk and Disaster Management has reported that more than 9,500 individuals have been affected, with at least 20 sustaining injuries as a result of the storm’s aftermath.

Cyclone Jude marks the third significant storm to hit Mozambique in a span of four months. Previously, Cyclone Chido ravaged the area in December, leading to the deaths of at least 120 people and the destruction of almost 120,000 homes. Meanwhile, Cyclone Dikeledi, which occurred in mid-January, resulted in five fatalities and the destruction of approximately 3,500 homes.

In summary, Cyclone Jude has caused substantial destruction in northern Mozambique, with a reported six fatalities and over 900 homes damaged. The storm, which has weakened but continues to affect thousands with severe weather, is part of a series of recent cyclones that have devastated the region. Authorities are actively addressing the emergency, although past storms such as Cyclone Chido and Cyclone Dikeledi highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Mozambique.
