An Angola man, Markus R. Markus R. Genovese, a 53-year-old resident of Angola, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges including manslaughter following a tragic accident resulting in the death of a child. The guilty plea was made before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi and encompasses second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a fatal incident.

The incident occurred on June 8, 2024, at approximately 8:10 p.m., on Lake Shore Road in Hamburg. Genovese was driving a pickup truck under the influence of alcohol or drugs and without a valid license when he collided with an SUV that was stationary, preparing to turn. This reckless behavior led to a serious crash.

After the collision, Genovese fled the scene on foot, abandoning his vehicle. He was subsequently located by law enforcement in nearby woods and transported to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, one child in the victim’s vehicle, an 8-year-old boy, sustained fatal injuries, while a 4-year-old boy was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Markus Genovese’s guilty plea to charges related to a fatal accident underscores the severe consequences of impaired driving and fleeing the scene of a crime. Facing a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, the case highlights the devastating impact of such reckless behavior on innocent lives. The investigation was aided by local law enforcement, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring justice is served.
