Foreign Nationals Charged with Conspiracy to Commit Gold Robbery in Zimbabwe

Four foreigners from China, Singapore, and Sierra Leone are charged with conspiracy to rob a Chinese smuggler transporting 4 kg of gold to Zambia. Local resident alerted authorities. Police arrested the suspects before the planned heist. The suspects will return to court on March 18.
On Tuesday, four foreign nationals from China, Singapore, and Sierra Leone were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in Zimbabwe. They targeted a Chinese smuggler transporting 4 kilograms of gold to Zambia. The individuals — Gohga Kan, Wu Ke Wen, Aruna Saidu, and Foday Kamara — appeared briefly before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who advised them to pursue bail at the High Court.
The National Prosecuting Authority outlined that on February 27, 2025, Kan approached a local resident named Ozias Matsikete to discuss robbing a vehicle on its way to Zambia through the Chirundu Border Post. Kan claimed to possess firearms and requested Matsikete’s assistance in recruiting accomplices, prompting Matsikete to inform detectives from CID Homicide.
On March 1, Kan instructed Matsikete to arrange a meeting with two recruited accomplices in Karoi to identify a suitable robbery location. He selected Karoi for its proximity to Zambia, from where he aimed to transport the stolen gold. Detectives, posing as accomplices, joined Matsikete in a vehicle to meet Kan, who was driving a white Toyota Prado, about 25 kilometers from Karoi.
The court proceedings highlight a significant plot to steal gold involving international suspects. Actions taken by Matsikete in alerting law enforcement proved pivotal in thwarting the robbery. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court again on March 18, as investigations continue into their alleged conspiracy.
