Asus Secures 40% Market Share in Egypt’s Laptop Sector

Asus laptops occupy nearly 40% of the Egyptian market, leading sales in an overall market of approximately 500,000 units annually. Increased online gaming during the pandemic has heightened demand for their Republic of Gamers Strix SCAR series. As a result, Asus gaming laptop sales now exceed 50% of total sales. The Egyptian market presents significant potential for growth, prompting increased investments from brands like Micro-Star International and expectations of rising global revenue for Asus.
Asus laptops command nearly 40% of Egypt’s laptop market, according to a recent report by German market research firm GfK. Annual sales of laptops in Egypt stand at around 500,000 units, with Asus leading, followed by Lenovo and HP.
The pandemic has spurred a rise in online gaming among Egyptians, as noted by Kung Huan-tse, Asus’s product manager for Egypt. He highlighted the popularity of the Republic of Gamers Strix SCAR series, specifically tailored for gamers. The newly released SCAR series boasts advanced graphics cards, superior processors, enhanced cooling systems, and an improved tool-free design for easy component management.
Asus anticipates a “post-pandemic upgrade wave”, given the typical computer replacement cycle of four to five years. Pre-sales for the SCAR series began in February, with young Egyptians favoring laptops that combine productivity with gaming. Notably, sales of Asus gaming laptops have surged to over 50% of total sales in Egypt since the latter half of last year.
Scully Wang from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council noted that Taiwanese brands must introduce higher-specification models to compete effectively, as sales in the Middle East are significantly higher than in Egypt.
Micro-Star International Company recognizes the potential of the Egyptian market, given its young demographic, and is enhancing its investment there by employing more marketing staff and providing laptop inspection and repair services. Asus CEO Samson Hu forecasts a 30% revenue growth in global personal computer sales for the second quarter, driven by the demand for device upgrades and the availability of AI-capable computers as Windows 10 nears end-of-support in October.
In summary, Asus has secured a substantial share of the Egyptian laptop market, driven by a surge in gaming interest. The introduction of the advanced SCAR series reflects a strategic move to align with evolving consumer preferences. The potential for further market growth remains, provided Taiwanese brands innovate and adapt to local demands.
