Little Kimberley has suffered horrific abuse at the hands of her parents in Papua New Guinea, prompting their arrest on charges of attempted murder. After enduring daily beatings and threats, she bravely reported her situation to police, leading to her rescue. Kimberley is now in a safe house, highlighting the urgent need for child protection and awareness of domestic violence issues in the country.

In a deeply distressing case of child abuse in Papua New Guinea, little Kimberley, a minor from Namatanai, endured brutal mistreatment at the hands of her parents. The tragic plea of the child, expressing her fear of being killed, has shocked the nation. Fortunately, her parents have been arrested and charged with attempted murder, and are currently detained at Kavieng jail, as confirmed by Chief Sergeant Silau Nambulasa of the Namatanai Rural Police.

The accused parents, originating from New Hanover, were employed in a logging company in Namatanai where they subjected Kimberley to daily physical assaults. These severe incidents were documented in a video recorded by the police officers who rescued her, which has since circulated widely on the internet. Kimberley bore visible injuries, including painful scars from burns and signs of brutal beatings inflicted by both parents and encouraged by her siblings.

The alarming situation first came to police attention during a visit to the logging camp after warnings from workers. Initially, both parents were charged with assault but received a fine and returned to care for Kimberley. Upon a subsequent investigation, police discovered that the abuse had escalated. The child was threatened, and despite this intimidation, she bravely reported her abusive experiences to police on video.

In addressing her case, a Family and Sexual Violence officer, assisted by other officers, intervened to remove Kimberley from the abusive environment and arrest her parents. Having previously resided under her grandmother’s care, Kimberley was relocated to the logging camp where she was subjected to daily violence when her parents secured work. Reports indicate that her father’s volatile temper contributed to the systemic abuse, which at times involved her siblings.

Following the arrest, police assure that Kimberley is now in a safe house receiving proper care, signaling some hope after her horrifying ordeal.

The case of Kimberley underscores the severe issue of child abuse and the vital role of police intervention in protecting vulnerable individuals. With her parents facing serious charges, this incident has not only raised awareness of domestic violence in Papua New Guinea but also evoked a strong public response calling for the protection and adoption of the young victim. Currently relocated to a safe haven, Kimberley symbolizes resilience amidst grave adversity, while authorities emphasize the commitment to ensuring her well-being and pursuing justice against her abusers.
