Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, went missing during her spring break trip in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Last seen on March 6, just before dawn, near her resort’s beach, the Civil Defense officials continue to conduct search operations. Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has urged authorities to expand their inquiry beyond accidental drowning to include kidnapping or abduction possibilities.
University officials are coordinating with authorities in Virginia and have expressed their support for the family’s efforts to locate Sudiksha. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is currently collaborating with federal agencies as well as the Dominican National Police in their investigation. Sudiksha is an Indian citizen and permanent resident of the United States, residing in Chantilly, Virginia.
Sudiksha traveled to Punta Cana for spring break on March 3 with five female friends. Upon being informed of her disappearance, her parents traveled to Punta Cana accompanied by two family friends. Subsequently, they formally requested that the investigation be broadened since her belongings, such as her phone and wallet, were left with her friends, which is atypical behavior for her.
