Eleven Detained for Thuggery and Public Disruption in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command recently apprehended eleven individuals for alleged involvement in thuggery and the disturbance of public peace in Suleja Local Government Area. This information was communicated by the Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a public statement released in Minna.
The incident occurred on March 6, 2025, at approximately 11:00 PM, when reports indicated that a group of youths, including some secondary school students led by Umar Idris, engaged in a violent conflict in the Chaichainiya area over personal matters. Notably, the confrontation resulted in gunfire, injuring two minors, Nura and Imrana, aged 10 and 11, respectively.
During a covert operation conducted by the police, eleven suspects, including Umar Idris, were detained for further investigation. SP Abiodun noted, “A preliminary investigation revealed that a personnel of a sister’s security agency was responsible for the shooting that led to the gunshot injuries of the two victims.”
The recent arrests made by the Niger State Police highlight serious public safety concerns stemming from youth violence and external influences from security personnel. The injuries sustained by two minors during this incident exemplify the need for ongoing law enforcement vigilance and community engagement to address such disturbances effectively.
